Coral Genus of the Family Acroporidae

The largest of the stony coral families, Acroporidae are known as "reef building" corals for their contribution to reef structures. Acropora and Montipora, the two most populous genera of SPS corals, are also the most popular in reef tanks- for their good record of success and proliferation captive in reef aquariums. Like all SPS corals, those in the family Acroporidae require a stable environment and knowledgeable care. However, for those up to the challenge, there are few greater rewards than watching these corals slowly grow.
