Often referred to as the 'Honeycomb Coral' (Goniastrea
Retiformis), corals of the genus Goniastrea are often incorrectly
lumped in by retailers and traders alike into the category 'Favia'. These
corals are exclusively dome-shaped in appearance, and tend to be pinkish
in coloration. Goniastreas are some of the most hardy of all stony corals,
and while often sold as species of the genus Merulina,
these corals should be considered much more desireable as they are much
more suited to long-term captive care.
