It may surprise some to learn that Fungia corals are
some of the most colorful corals available for reef aquariums. Commonly
found in brilliant shades of red, purple, pink, blue and yellow, these
corals are strange and beautiful. Solitary corals, the most common morphology
is a disc or oblong saucer-shape. In fact, the common names for corals
of the Fungia genus include 'Disk Coral' and 'Plate Coral', but also include
such oddities as the 'Tongue Coral' (Fungia
Echinata). Fungia are found on the substrate of the reef, and do well
in captive care on the sandbed of reef aquariums.
