With the most common species being referred to as the
'Slipper Coral' (Polyphyllia
Talpina), corals of the genus Polyphyllia resemble those of their
close relatives in the genus Herpolitha but
with longer tentacles. Herpolitha can be differentiated visually, however,
by the lack of a central groove. Like other corals in the family Fungiidae,
Polyphyllia live in the substrate and can be successfully kept captively
in the sand bed of reef aquariums by providing them light to moderate
flow.
