Corals of the genus Blastomussa have become very popular
with reef tank hobbyists due to their unusual appearance and wide range
of vibrant colors available. Polyps are very fleshy and typically obscure
any view of the skeleton beneath, often making these corals resemble mushroom
anenomes. Some Blastomussa polyps, such as those found on
Blastomussa Wellsi,
can reach a diameter of 5 inches. These corals prefer moderate flow and
moderate to low lighting, as they are often found in deep or protected
waters.
