The 'Galaxy Coral', species of the genus Galaxea are
at the same time fragile and deadly. Long flutes protruding from their
skeleton are easily broken during transport, while long sweeper tentacles
sting and eventually kill anything within reach. Galaxea colonies spread
over rocks as they grow, eventually taking over their entire surface and
transforming the entire rock into one living coral, with hundreds of long
filaments waving in the current. Known to be susceptible to various diseases,
many advanced reef aquarists have enjoyed long-term success with these
corals.
