Most often called the 'Flowerpot Coral', responsible
reef aquarists will shy away from members of the genus Goniopora. Although
beautiful, these corals have been the subject of a great deal of recent
controversy. Success in captive care is the exception to the rule, with
most species surviving only a short time in reef aquariums. However, due
in large part to their abundance and ease of collection, these corals
(and their close relatives in the genus Alveopora)
remain a staple all too commonly available to the reef aquarium hobby.
