A favorite among reef tank hobbyists, the 'Open Brain
Coral' has been appropriately named for its large fleshy folds of sinuous
tissue. Solitary corals that are most often placed directly in sand beds
and substrate layers, corals of the genus Trachyphyllia are moderately
difficult to keep successfully over the long-term. Captive care requirements
include regular attention to gathering substrate that may cause areas
of tissue bleaching and recession. These corals come in a variety of electrified
colors, including neon greens and unusual reds, with occassional blue
variations available at significant prices.
