The hammer coral, Euphyllia Ancora, is one of the perennial favorites of reef aquarium hobbyists. Although capable of producing stinging sweeper tentacles, this coral's predictable growth pattern lends itself well to being a tankmate of SPS corals. A very adaptable and easy to keep coral, the only issues with keeping the hammer coral long term is common to all corals of the Euphyllia genus, susceptibility to brown jelly disease. With proper care and attention to water quality, these coral species will live long in captivity and provide the opportunity for propogation through fragging (easily achieved by breaking off individual stalks where they originate on the coral's skeleton).
