Euphyllia Paradivisa

Coral Family: Caryophyllidae
Coral Genus: Euphyllia
Coral Species: Paradivisa
Common Name: Branching Frogspawn Coral
Common Morphologies: Other - Large Polyp Stony coral (LPS)
Origin: Pacific Ocean
Lighting Requirements: Medium. Should be placed low in metal halide lit reef aquariums. Will succeed under flourescent lights including VHO and power compact.
Flow Requirements: Low to medium
Availability: Common
Difficulty: Easy

Difficult to distinguish from the non-branching variety of frogspawn, the branching frogspawn coral (Euphyllia Paradivisa) grows in much more defined skeletal cones. The large, fleshy polyps - typical of all large polyp stony corals in the Euphyllia genus- often have extremely colorful tips, found in purple and pink (as well as white and green). As a readily available coral, the frogspawn makes a great addition to any reef aquarium. Care must be taken, however, to maintain high water quality in order to fend off diseases such as brown jelly disease- which is fairly common among the more fleshy of the LPS corals.
