The branching hammer coral and hammer coral (Euphyllia Ancora) are easily mistaken for one another, as the solitary differentiation is the level with which the coral skeleton branches from a central origin. Both are tolerant of a wide range of reef tank conditions, accepting floursescent lighting as well as metal halides. While stinging sweeper tentacles have been known to occur, they do not reach great length and less care must be taken in placement than other LPS corals. All members of the Euphyllia genus are somewhat susceptible to disease, but under reasonable conditions will continue to grow and prosper in captive care. Reef aquarium hobbyists enjoy these corals for their easy propogation, by simply breaking a branch from the main coral skeleton.
