The Heliofungia is often mistaken as an anenome, even on occasion by clownfish who take up host in the long tentacles of this solitary coral. Heliofungia are best kept directly in the sand bed of reef aquariums. Care must be taken when handling so as not to catch air bubbles under the base skeleton. Also, occasional cleaning of sand deposits will help to ensure that these corals enjoy a long and healthy life in captivity. Heliofungia do enjoy strong current, and many reef tank hobbyists target feed these corals pieces of silverside or bursts of brine shrimp, which the coral will intake readily.
